According to an annual member survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), two of the top reasons patients have for seeking cosmetic surgery are the need to remain competitive in the workforce and the impact of social media. The survey showed that 42 percent of members report social media as a primary reason for their decision to undergo plastic surgery procedures. Women and men are feeling the pressure more than ever to look their best.

More men are now undergoing plastic surgery to keep their youthful appearance or change what they do not like about their body. According to another survey by the AAFPRS, over 30 percent of men said they are “extremely likely” to consider a cosmetic procedure, surgical or non-surgical. Of those men, 58 percent were between 25 and 34 years old, and 34 percent were between 18 and 24 years old.

Some of the most common procedures for men include rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, breast reduction, liposuction, and tummy tuck. That’s right, we said a tummy tuck! While the procedure is best known as an option for new mothers, it can also be a solution for anyone dealing with excess skin and fat around their abdomen.

The procedure known as an abdominoplasty, is quickly rising in popularity among men. Abdominoplasty is a body contouring procedure in which excess fat and skin is removed from your abdominal area. In addition, a tummy tuck can be used to tighten abdominal muscles that have been weakened or separated, restoring a firmer, smoother and more appealing midsection. This procedure is often used following significant weight loss, but can also be effective for people with otherwise normal proportions who have loose skin and stubborn fat around the abdominal area. The lower stomach can be a problem area for many men, and abdominoplasty can address those concerns.
