miraDry in Atlanta, GA

Do you suffer from excessive underarm sweating? If so, you may have a condition called axillary hyperhidrosis, which currently affects one in five adults. miraDry is a noninvasive, FDA approved procedure that treats this condition by targeting the sweat and odor glands in the underarm area. Gland regeneration is prevented, so miraDry results are permanent.

Who is a Candidate for miraDry?

The miraDry treatment is chosen by both men and women to relieve embarrassing underarm perspiration and odor challenges. Before your procedure, you must schedule a consultation with Dr. Crispin to find out whether you qualify for the treatment and to discuss any concerns you might have.

miraDry is not suited for:

  • Individuals under 18 years of age
  • Individuals with pacemakers or electronic implants
  • Individuals who are allergic to epinephrine or lidocaine
  • Individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Individuals who are currently on Accutane or who are 6 months or less post-Accutane treatment

How Does the miraDry Procedure Work?

Your treatment takes about an hour and is easily performed in our office. A local anesthetic is applied to numb the underarm area. Most patients experience little to no pain.

There are no incisions or stitches. A handheld device employs thermal energy to target and eliminate the area containing sweat and odor glands. Approximately 2% of the millions of sweat glands needed for cooling the body are located in the underarm area. Be assured, this minimal loss of glands is quite safe and will not affect the body’s overall thermoregulation.

Most patients require only one treatment; 25% to 30% of patients may require an additional treatment to maximize their results. As with any cosmetic procedure, results vary by patient.

What are the Recovery Times after a miraDry Procedure?

Individuals who undergo miraDry treatment experience little to no downtime. Most patients return to work the same day and resume exercise in 2 to 3 days. Post-treatment, you may experience some bruising, swelling, numbness, and/or increased sensitivity for several days. Ice packs and ibuprofen are recommended to alleviate these symptoms.

FAQs: miraDry

1) How soon will I see my miraDry results?

Results appear almost instantly and are long lasting. According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society, most patients experience an 82% long-term sweat reduction.

2) Is Botox a safer alternative than miraDry to control excessive underarm sweating?

Botox is another noninvasive procedure that may be used to treat hyperhidrosis. It can be quite effective, but its results last 6 months or less. Treatment is required 2 to 3 times a year on a continual basis, which can become quite expensive. For the same price as a year’s supply of Botox, you can undergo a miraDry treatment and enjoy permanent perspiration and odor reduction. Think of miraDry as your one and done procedure. Once the treatment is complete, the results are permanent for most patients.
