What are my options for nose surgery?
Board certified Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Crispin offers open and closed rhinoplasty. Closed rhinoplasty is done through incisions made only inside the nostrils. Open rhinoplasty will include an additional incision along the skin in between your nostrils. The rhinoplasty technique that is most suited to meet your needs will be based on the size and contours of your nose and your final aesthetic desires.
Should I expect swelling or bruising after nose surgery?
There will be some swelling and bruising following your nose surgery. These things are temporary and can be dealt with through the use of medications, ice packs, and head elevation. In most cases, swelling and bruising should subside within seven to ten days.
How long does it take to recover from nose surgery?
Swelling and bruising may last for seven to ten days, but recovery from a rhinoplasty procedure is usually very fast. Congestion may accompany the swelling as well as minor headaches, but these are usually minimal and easy to treat with over-the-counter medications.
Many patients feel well enough to return to work in one week. Most of your normal activities can be resumed within two weeks, but strenuous exercise should wait for Dr. Crispin’s approval.
Are there any risks with nose surgery?
All surgeries come with some risks. Nose surgery is no exception. Risks associated with rhinoplasty include:
- Excessive bleeding
- Reactions to medications
- Visible scarring
- Loss of nasal skin sensitivity
These complications are rare, especially when you work with an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Mark Crispin.
Are the results of nose surgery permanent?
Nose surgery alters the cartilage and bone in your nose to help bring your nose into proper proportion with your face. Surgical changes of your nose are effectively permanent. However, aging, genetics and lifestyle choices may impact the future appearance of your nose.
