Recovery after your breast surgery will depend on several factors, including your specific procedure. A breast reconstruction may have a slightly different recovery than a breast augmentation. While the recovery period for breast surgery will vary from person to person, general recovery information for two of the most common breast surgeries is provided below. During your initial consultation with board certified Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Crispin, more specific information on your Atlanta plastic surgery will be provided.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
During the first one to two days following your Atlanta breast augmentation, you can expect to feel minor discomfort and should plan to rest. Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Crispin will provide you with medications to help deal with any pain. Getting plenty of rest and arranging for a close friend or family member to assist you for the first 24 hours will provide you with what you need to regain your energy.
Swelling is common after any breast surgery. Depending on the placement of your breast implants, some degree of swelling may last for up to four months. During this time, you can help reduce swelling by wearing compression garments, drinking plenty of water, not smoking
After four weeks, you should be able to resume exertional activity.
Although uncommon, bruising can last for a month. Dr. Crispin will advise you how to keep your incisions clean as well as recommend ointments that may help reduce scarring and bruising.
Breast Lift Recovery
Like breast augmentation, recovery from your Atlanta breast lift will include some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Medications compression garments, and hydration will help hasten your healing.
With a breast lift, some bruising and swelling may persist for several weeks to a few months. Dr. Crispin will work with you during this time to help ensure everything is progressing as it should.
With both breast lifts and breast augmentation, work can generally be resumed within one to two weeks. Dr. Crispin will let you know if you are not ready to return to work after this time as well as when you can resume all of your normal activities.
Atlanta breast surgery does require some recovery time. This should be a consideration prior to committing to a procedure, but not a deterrent. Recovery time proceeds fairly quickly. The beautiful results offered by your procedure have the potential to provide you with the look that you have always wanted.
