I do not want highly visible scars. Where can I have breast augmentation incisions placed to reduce this risk?
- Inframammary – underneath the breast
- Periareolar – around the nipple
- Transaxillary – through the armpit
All breast augmentation incisions create scars; however, every care is taken by Dr. Crispin to make scarring as minimal as possible. You can help reduce visible scarring by following all of Dr. Crispin’s postsurgical advice.
Where can breast implants be placed?
Your options for breast implant placement are above the chest muscle (subglandular) or below the chest muscle (submuscular.) The placement of your breast implants will depend on your physical characteristics, lifestyle and the final aesthetic results you desire. There are certain benefits to each placement option. These will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.
What types of breast implants are available?
Dr. Crispin offers both saline and silicone breast implants. Both breast implant types create a fuller, larger breast. However, there are differences between saline and silicone gel implants. The type of breast implant that you choose will be dependent on factors which include your final aesthetic desire, your age, and the location of your incisions.
Is breast augmentation safe?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there are nearly 300,000 breast augmentations performed in the United States every year. While a common procedure, it is still surgery and should be approached with that mind set. Dr. Mark Crispin is board certified both as a general surgeon and as a plastic surgeon. He approaches each Atlanta breast augmentation with an eye towards the safety and satisfaction of our patients. Using a Keller funnel to keep your implant sterile and working only in accredited surgical centers are just two ways for Dr. Crispin to reduce surgical risks and optimize outcomes.
We will do everything possible to ensure your comfort and safety at all times before, during, and after your Atlanta plastic surgery procedure. Specific risks can be discussed with you based on your breast augmentation choices during your initial consultation.
What is recovery from breast augmentation like?
Your recovery from breast surgery will be unique for you. Factors such as your body’s natural ability to heal and your breast implant placement relative to the pectoralis muscle will play a role in your recovery.
As a general rule, discomfort and swelling will be present in the first one to two weeks following your surgery. Discomfort can be addressed with medications provided by our office as well as icing the surgical area. Work can often be resumed after one week, but more strenuous exercise will need to be avoided for up to four weeks.
Bruising and swelling will subside with time. Be sure to wear a bra recommended by Dr. Crispin and be careful to keep your incision area clean at all times. Final results can take four to six months to be apparent. During this time, Dr. Crispin will be available to you to answer your questions and address any concerns you may have.
